6 and Out: Jake Fraser-Mcgurk displays flashes of brilliance on lightning fast international debut | WATCH
Right-arm bowler Will Sutherland and Jake Fraser-McGurk made their ODI debuts together. McGurk and Sutherland are Big Bash League players for the Melbourne Renegades.
On Sunday, February 4, at the Sydney Cricket Ground, Australia’s youthful batting star, Jake Fraser-McGurk, made an incredible international debut against the West Indies. At the location, Fraser-McGurk was given a new batting deck to bat on, and just when it appeared he had found his fifth gear, Alzarri Joseph outplayed him.
On the opening ball of his international career, the 21-year-old attempted a daring swipe but was unable to make the connection. He attempted to get a feel for it, but the next delivery swung away from him and into the wicketkeeper’s gloves. Unaffected by the events that had unfolded, the young player proceeded to dance up the track and hit a horizontal bat shot that went straight down the ground, commencing both his innings and Australia’s score chart with a boundary.
The third delivery of the over was slanted by Joseph to Fraser-McGurk, who then timed the ball over the square leg region for a massive six with a full-fledged flick. The Australian attack gave the crowd a sense of energy and demonstrated his willingness to control the action. But when the debutant had to make the arduous journey back to the pavilion for the subsequent delivery, the audience’s excitement quickly subsided.
Joseph delivered a delivery that was just a tad bit short of a nice length, causing the right-hander to nip it away. Shai Hope, the wicketkeeper, jumped at the chance to dismiss Fraser-McGurk, who only managed to get a feather on it in his attempt to push it into the covers.
